The Greatest spectacle that happens twice a year!

In my opinion football, baseball, hockey, and basketball, are all well and good. However in my opinion there is nothing truly like the spectacle that is the X Games! All my life I have just been fascinated with both the summer and winter competitions that showcase double back flips on a dirt-bike and 1260 rotations on skis. With the up and coming summer games this weekend I figured I would show some of what you might see if you care to watch one of the most entertaining things on television.

There are really two huge stories in the 2008 X Games preview. One the fact that Jake Brown (mega-ramp skateboarder competitor) who fell more than 45 feet to the ground ( see link below) will be competing in this years competition. This may not seem like a big deal until you watch a video if you have not  already seen it.

The next big story of the 2008 games is the extreme progression of motocross best trick. it truly seems that every year someone or some people show up to the competition with some outrageous trick. The bar was drastically raised with the introduction of the back flip ( yes a back flip on a dirt-bike). Then it became who had the better variation of backflip whether it had a grab or what not. Then just a couple of years since the backflip came to be the standard, out of no where Travis Pastrana comes out and lands a double back flip on a dirt-bike!!! Now this year there are a lot of rumors going on about new wild tricks people are hoping to throw down. Check the video below to get a sneak peek and some of the tricks you might be able to see in Moto X Best trick in 2008.

The Golden Girls Drinking Game

This was invented and became a staple in the late 90’s in Mid-Missouri. The game goes as follows:Every person in the room picks one of the 4 characters – Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, or Sofia.

For the entire episode the following cues lead to the following drink requirement based on your assigned character

Blanche makes a sexual innuendo = 1 drink, Blanche mentions the South = power drink

Rose says something airheaded = 1 drink, Rose mentions St Olaf = power drink

Dorothy gives advice = 1 drink, Dorothy mentions ex-husband Stan = power drink

Sofia makes a wise crack = 1 drink, Sofia mentions The Old Country = power drink

Any time the word “Cheesecake” is mentioned = Social!

Any time 3 or more of the women sit together to eat cheesecake all three must do a Power Social

If all 4 of the women are seated at one table, the first character to get up requires whoever has that character to finish their current drink.

Finally, if the extended theme song if played (The one with both verses and opening scene is a jet departing) all players must finish their first drink before that song ends.

Enjoy, and pour a little out on the stoop for our beloved Sofia, Dorothy, and Blanche.

What is an Intern to do in NYC on the 4th of July?

Go to Coney Island and watch the Hot-dog Eating contest of course!

So I made my way down there with a friend in town; planned on getting there early enough so we both could get some good seats. After getting there two hours before the show we were met with a huge cast of characters who had figured that two hours was not early enough. Luckily I was able to talk my way into getting a media pass for me and a VIP pass for my friend. So bring on the show. I took a ton of pictures and here are a few select ones from the day.

The most coveted prize in Major League eating.

Reigning champion Joey Chestnut again took the mustard colored belt home this year in the first recorded overtime victory.

Takeru Kobayashi the man who many people say brought competitive eating to a whole new level holds man world records for eating including cow brains and rice-balls.

A battle to the bitter end, Kobayashi took the lead until Chestnut turned up the heat and tied it up at the end of the regulation ten minutes.

“Humble Bob” works his way through his hot dogs during the contest.

Chestnut brought home the trophy and the belt for the second consecutive year in front of 35,000 screaming fans.
